Claude Usage Limits Explained
Start with the account, product and usage window that triggered the limit. A public reset announcement cannot tell you exactly when your own allowance returns.

Session windows and weekly limits
Claude subscriptions use five-hour session windows, with additional weekly limits on paid plans. A session refresh does not necessarily clear another limit. Check Settings → Usage for your account.

Why is there no fixed weekly message count?
Conversation size, task complexity, model and features affect consumption. Subscription usage across Claude web, desktop and Claude Code shares an allowance, so changing clients does not create a fresh quota.

What can you do after reaching a limit?
Check the reset time in your usage display. Eligible paid accounts can enable usage credits to continue, subject to credit balance and spending controls. This adds charges; it is not a free manual reset.

Frequently asked questions
Does Claude reset at midnight?
Do not rely on a universal midnight countdown. Check the session and other reset windows shown in your account’s usage page.
Why am I still limited after a session refresh?
Another limit may still apply. Check weekly usage, your account and product; consult the official status page if the service appears unavailable.
Does an API 429 mean my subscription ran out?
Not necessarily. API billing and rate limits are separate. Diagnose API errors in its console rather than applying the subscription’s five-hour window.
