Codex Usage Limits Explained

Codex-related searches often collapse two questions into one: “was a public reset announced?” and “when does my account refill?” This guide separates normal usage windows, exceptional public resets and banked credits, then points to where you should verify your own allowance.

What a normal usage window is

A normal window is the routine allowance that refreshes on the product’s own schedule. It usually appears in ChatGPT / Codex usage or settings screens, not as a required social post. Trust the labels your account shows for models and features.

Official pricing and usage documentation describe how paid plans expose usage. Labels change, so this page does not invent fixed “N messages per day” numbers. For exact values, open the in-product usage screen.

Exceptional public resets and banked credits

An exceptional reset is a restoration or credit announced outside the routine window. It may cover only some plans or product surfaces, and it may roll out gradually. Historical announcement gaps describe captured posts; they are not a personal ETA.

A banked reset usually means a reset opportunity reserved for later use, not automatic rollover of unused tokens. Check the original post and account notices for redemption, affected meters and expiry. See the dedicated banked-reset article for a longer walkthrough.

How to check inside the product

Open the usage or settings area. Note which feature consumed quota, whether a reset time is printed, and whether any exceptional credit notice appears separately. Capture that first, then decide whether a public tracker is relevant.

The Codex tracker on this site archives public announcements; the Codex history page keeps a longer list and interval stats. Neither page can change your account quota.

Frequently asked questions

When is the next Codex bonus reset?

There is no fixed time this history can reliably forecast. Check the usage screen for personal recovery and the tracker plus original posts for exceptional announcements.

An announcement said reset but nothing changed for me?

Your plan may be out of scope, a banked credit may need redemption, or the change may not have reached your account yet. Verify the post and the product UI.

Do ChatGPT and Codex share one limit?

They are related, but announcement wording is not always interchangeable. Trust the product named in the post and the surface you are actually using.
