What a banked reset is — and what it is not
Some Codex-related announcements mention a banked reset or banked credit. The phrase sounds like unused allowance carrying forward. In practice it usually means something narrower: a reset opportunity that has been set aside for later use, with its own eligibility and expiry rules.

The short definition
A banked reset is a reset opportunity that can be used later, not a promise that every unused token automatically moves into the next normal usage window. Think of it as a reserved “use this reset when you need it” credit attached to an announcement or account action, rather than a continuous rollover balance.
That distinction matters because people often read “banked” as “saved unused quota.” If unused tokens truly rolled over by default, products would usually say so in plan docs. Banked-reset posts instead describe a discrete credit: you may need to claim it, it may apply only to certain limits, and it may expire.
In other words, banking a reset is closer to receiving a voucher than to watching a leftover balance spill into tomorrow.
How it differs from a normal account window
A normal usage window is the routine allowance that refreshes according to the product’s own schedule — for example a session window, a daily or weekly cap, or another meter shown in Settings → Usage. You do not need a public tweet for that window to move forward.
A banked reset sits outside that routine. It is typically announced as an exceptional credit or as part of a special distribution. The announcement may tell you a credit was added, how many resets you can spend, or which product surface it affects. It does not rewrite the definition of your ordinary plan allowance.
If both exist at once, check both places: the product usage page for the ordinary window, and the announcement or in-product notice for the banked credit. Mixing the two clocks is the most common reason people think a tracker “failed” when their personal meter simply had not refreshed yet.
What to verify before you rely on one
Read the original post for product scope. “Codex” and “ChatGPT” are related but not always interchangeable in an announcement. The same is true for plan names: a credit for one tier does not automatically apply to every subscriber.
Check whether the credit is automatic or redeemable. Some posts say limits were reset; others say resets were banked for you to use. If redemption is required, looking only at a historical tracker will not show whether you already claimed it.
Look for expiry and partial coverage. A banked reset may clear only some meters, apply for a limited time, or land gradually across accounts. Treat the public post as a lead, then confirm what your account actually displays.
What this site’s archive can and cannot prove
WhenReset.fyi records announcements that mention resets or banked credits and keeps the source link. The archive can show that a post existed, when it was published, and what wording was captured. Historical gaps between posts describe announcement timing, not your personal reset schedule.
The archive cannot prove that your account received the credit, that the credit is still unused, or that every subscriber was eligible. Those facts live in the product UI and in the provider’s systems.
If you are trying to decide whether to wait for another public banked-reset post, remember that exceptional credits are discretionary. There is no reliable average interval that turns past banked-reset posts into a calendar of future gifts.
Frequently asked questions
Does a banked reset mean unused tokens roll over?
Usually no. It means a reset opportunity was reserved for later use. Rollover of unused tokens would be a different product rule and should be confirmed in official plan docs or your account UI.
Why did an announcement say banked reset but my quota looks unchanged?
The credit may need redemption, may apply to another product surface, may exclude your plan, or may not have reached your account yet. Check the original post and your usage screen.
Can WhenReset.fyi spend a banked reset for me?
No. This site is a read-only tracker and explainer. It cannot open your account or redeem credits.
